His PersonalityRi is a gutsy horse. Period. Whether it's in the barn or the track, The Rising lets you know that he isn't going anywhere. He draws the attention to himself like a magnet, a very positive magnet at that. He has a hardy nature and a physique that practically pulls you in. He is very workmanlike and professional throughout his day and is quite the charmer for the ladies. He is enthusiastic about everything and takes it all in stride. He tries his hardest to impress and do his best and gets quite sad if he ever has to be disciplined for being naughty. Everyone believes that the colt is trying to stay on everyone's good side in order to stay at Witch Creek.
He didn't take the move from Star Thoroughbreds or the auction very well. Ri was a lighter weight upon his arrival at Witch Creek, but so eager to accept the people around him. He is an automatic fit with everyone at the barn, kind, calm and beautifully well-tempered. He is always prancing and kindly accepting treats, his eyes often bright and eager for the day's events. He is an absolutely stunning mover, smooth and strong and he doesn't give the appearance of a quick horse. Everything Ri does is purposeful and done with an incredible amount of class. He was well liked by all of the horses at Witch Creek and has grown quite close to the two year old gelding Sincerely Yours, until he was sold to Nature Blues. Ri is actually very accepting of Gambler, despite the fact that his stallion parts are in tact, and is often kept in the same paddock. The Rising is definitely one of those horses that is late maturing and his former anxieties have been fixed by the calmer environment at Witch Creek. He prances all the way to the track and on race day is quite the dressage performer in the parade. He'll dance sideways, extended his legs, lower his neck in order to flex his back muscles. He has the attitude to be an absolute stunner on the track and follow in the hoof prints of older sisters Wildly Natural and Born To Soar. It's only a matter of time and the way he has been running and training are signs that Ri's performances are going to get a hell of a lot better. Upon arrival to Nature Blue the colt was to be placed with the other 4 year old of the stable. He was a sweet comfortable boy but, butted heads with the only mare in the stable Red Admiral. Angela Renzo decided to place him in between Gamble On Peace and Ruler's Secret and the stallion seemed to calm down quite a bit. |
His StyleIn the races, Ri will break like a rocket and usually make it to the front before anyone else. However, where he used to get overly excited, Ri will settle down into a nice long fluid stride. He is versatile on the front end and when taken out of his element in the back of the pack can give him a bit of a complex. Throughout the duration of a race, Ri will be on the lead at least some point. It depends on the pace and who else is in the race. Usually, he will stay just off of the pace a length or two back and stalk. He has the ability to get his way out of trouble like a pro chess player and seems to get a kick out of the mind games that he plays. He'll settle down in whatever front running position suits him, galloping along like a pro.
Once the final stretch hits, Ri taps into those beautiful reserves and gallops right on by the competition. Maggie is careful not to let the bay get too far ahead because he does have a tendency to turn off the burners and wait on horses. The move is timed at mid-stretch, giving him little time to think about his competition fading behind him. The Rising thrills on being led into the winner's circle, stopping at various times for some poses. His name is perfectly apt. Don't forget it. |

His Progeny
The Rising is a stubborn stallion coming from the lines of The Natural and Warm Wishes it is best this horse be paired with calm mares. Ri loves to run the distances and while he is dual surfaced his lines will throw more turf orientated foals than dirt. He did have a small racing career but due to a minor injury The Rising was retired to stud. While he does have a bit of a temper he is can also be well mannered when he wants to be. Medium build mares would be perfect for him.
